Press-release Annual present – Memorigin “The Time Machine”
[Hong Kong‧19 November 2014] It is the first time for Mark Lui, the Hong Kong famous music producer and designer, to coordinate with Memorigin for launching a conceptual tourbillon watch. He has designed both the wristwatch and its box package, hoping to impact the watch industry with his creativity. He wants to design a modern watch that embraces a classic appearance and merges elegance and wildness together. Through collaborating with Memorigin, Mark is inspired by the brand philosophy - the fusion of traditional watch craftsmanship and modern cogitation. He understands it is especially challenging for complicated mechanical movement in tourbillons to achieve accuracy.
The above ideas have led the concept of “steampunk” to come up in his mind. The term is related to the industrial revolution of steamed mechanics dated back to the 19thCentury. Mark hopes the watch does not only present the timekeeping function, but it also serves as an art piece for users to appreciate its design. At the same time, it encourages us to pursue our dreams and treasure our best moments.
Being the designer of the “The Time Machine”, Mark Lui designs his tourbillon with both modern and classic design, combining with a rough feeling to produce a very special tourbillon that is different from the ones in the market. One of the major breakthroughs is 4 circular windows on the watch surface. Each of them is of different size giving us different visual delights at different perspectives. They symbolize factory smokestacks that represent the watch as a revolutionary legend. They also look like a telescope that attracts us to look into the mechanical mystery. Considering from the users’ perspective, Mark designs the crown with a cushion to avoid any injuries during winding the watch. There are two shades for “The Time Machine”, giving us very different perceptions. The rose-gold surface coupled with a dark brown alligator strap gives a retro feeling while the silver surface is coupled with a navy blue alligator strap to present a simplicity and modern style.
