(Hong Kong News 7/6/2019) The legendary striker and English football superstar, Michael Owen, has received numerous accolades for his prodigious football skills. He scored a total of 263 goals in his professional football career and was awarded the honorary FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2001. After his retirement, he has been devoted to the promotion of football and equestrian sports culture. Last year, he established his first venture in the fashion industry, MICHA10WEN. Teaming up with the sportswear maker ANIFA, the brand launched a series of advanced apparel, which includes comfortable yet stylish sports suits and the functional waterproof Tech Knit Jacket.

Speed was always a significant aspect of Owen’s football. As a player he seized every second of every game and is undoubtedly one of the fastest players to have ever graced a football pitch. This year, MICHA10WEN partnered with Memorigin, the Hong Kong Tourbillon watch brand, to present his own limited-edition ‘MICHAE10WEN Goals of a Legend Series Tourbillon’ watch. Designed by Owen, the precious tourbillon features his favorite sport, football. “Mechanical watches and football are closely linked. The skills required are similar to a football team that needs tacit understanding among its team members to score a goal. In the case of a watch there are hundreds of refined components working together to cancel the effect of gravity and indicate the accurate time. My unforgettable moments on the football pitch are not limited to the goals I scored; they also include the various emotions of the football fans. I think my partnership with Memorigin and the sophisticated tourbillon craftmanship is the best way to represent and share these valuable moments with my fans” said Owen.

Fitting his modest style, Owen designed the wrist watch in dark tone. At the 9 o’clock position of the dial, there is a hollow football pattern shaped by simple geometric lines. The red frame which encircles the rotor represents the 45-minute half in a football match. The index ‘10’ is also red in color to match Owen’s number 10 football shirt. As Owen loves travelling, he specifically added the GMT dual time-zone indicator at 6 o’clock position to display two different times and thereby making his busy journeys more efficient. The geometric football pattern can also be seen at the pointer. To memorialize the prestigious Ballon d’Or honor he received in 2001, he has highlighted the watch with the impressive gold-plated football sphere at the 12 o’clock position.

The automatic winding movement, which has been chosen by Memorigin for this series, provides 40-hour power reserve with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.  Located at the 3 o’clock position, the flying tourbillon is covered with sapphire glass to provide multi-dimensional views and to enhance its mechanical feel. The series is only limited to 263 pieces worldwide. The back of each watch has been engraved in the order and the date of the 263 goals that Owen scored in his football career. Each watch comes with an individual certificate of authenticity that is personally signed by Owen and includes a personal quote from him about each individual goal he scored goal throughout his impressive career. The watches record every precious and meaningful moment of Michael Owen’s career on the football pitch.

During the round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup France 1998, Owen gave England a lead against Argentina with a sensational individual goal. That goal is one of the most important goals in his professional football career. He was the youngest English player, and also England’s youngest goal scorer at World Cup. “That goal changed my life. I don’t think it changed me, but people started to notice me and it changed their views on me.” said Owen.
